Gulistan2011

An artist recites lines from Saadi’s Gulistan (The Flower Garden) ― a monument of Persian literature ― as her body moves through space and away from the words of the poem. In 2009, while working in Iran, she was instructed to take photographs of flowers instead of taking self-portraits that addressed social concerns. In response, the artist, Atashi, started exploring the historical, literary, and symbolic connotations of flowers in Iran.
