Hasbro's First 2027 Black Series Wave Has One Figure From Every Saga Film, Tessek Included

Hasbro's Star Wars fan stream on October 2 revealed the first Black Series wave of 2027 and a new Vintage Collection set: Queen Amidala, Padawan Anakin, a Galactic Marine, X-wing pilot Luke, IG-88 and Tessek, plus a Lothal Rebels 3-pack and A New Hope droids. Pre-orders open October 7 and October 15, with figures due spring 2027.

Merchandise announcements rarely say much about a franchise's mood, but Hasbro's October 2 Pulse fan stream said something I didn't expect: for its 2027 Star Wars slate, the company is treating the whole saga as one big anniversary shelf.

What Was Revealed

Per Fantha Tracks' write-up of the stream, with the wave details cross-checked in other hobby coverage, the headline is the first Black Series (6-inch) wave for 2027, due spring 2027, with pre-orders opening October 15 at 1 PM ET on Hasbro Pulse and regular retailers:

  • Queen Amidala from The Phantom Menace, with a soft-goods robe and photoreal paint.
  • Padawan Anakin Skywalker from Attack of the Clones, with a blue lightsaber, swing FX and an alternate Force hand.
  • Galactic Marine from Revenge of the Sith, with blaster and backpack.
  • Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot) from A New Hope, with removable helmet, blaster and lightsaber.
  • IG-88 from The Empire Strikes Back, with two blasters, a vibro-ax and a removable holster. Coverage describes this one as properly scaled with some new parts.
  • Tessek from Return of the Jedi, with blaster. Yes, the Quarren accountant from Jabba's court gets his own figure.

Separately, a Black Series Stormtrooper with an adjustable torso for height variation arrives in special anniversary blister packaging, with pre-order details still to come.

The Vintage Collection (3.75-inch) side, also spring 2027, leads with a Lothal Rebels 3-Pack: Sabine Wren, Ezra Bridger and Kanan Jarrus in a stormtrooper disguise, in Kenner-branded closed-box packaging, from Star Wars Rebels. Pre-orders open October 7 at 1 PM ET on Hasbro Pulse, Amazon, Walmart and Target. C-3PO and R2-D2 from A New Hope follow, R2 with a swappable restraining-bolt panel; their pre-order details haven't been announced.

The Pattern Nobody Pointed Out

Count the Black Series films again: The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi. Six figures, six saga films, one each. That's my observation, not Hasbro's pitch, but it looks deliberate, and it's the right way to open an anniversary year. A New Hope turns fifty in 2027, and the Stormtrooper's "anniversary" packaging says the same thing the figures do: the celebration is for the whole saga, not just the 1977 film.

I like that the picks are not the obvious ones. Nobody needed another Luke. But a Padawan-era Anakin with a Force hand is a very good collector's pairing with the Ahsoka Season 2 hype, a Galactic Marine adds another trooper variant to the shelf, and Tessek is the kind of deep cut Black Series does best. IG-88 has extra meaning this autumn: he's one of the bounty hunters in the LEGO Executor set I wrote about on October 1, so the same character is getting a premium treatment from two toy companies in the same fortnight.

What to Watch

Two dates are worth putting in the calendar: October 7 for the Lothal 3-pack and October 15 for the Black Series wave. Prices weren't in the coverage I could verify, so I'm not going to guess. Collectors who have been burned by Black Series scalping know the drill: be on the Pulse page at 1 PM ET sharp.

May the Force be with your pre-order cart. My bet is that Tessek is the sleeper hit.
