Overview

The revolutions that swept Latin America in the second half of the 20th century owe much to the participation of millions of Christians who engaged in political struggles in the name of their faith, paying a heavy toll for undermining the traditional relationship between the Church and power. Driven by Liberation theology, they challenged military regimes and oligarchies, risking their lives. Far from Marx's idea of religion as 'opium of the people', here the people fought for the advent of the Kingdom of God on Earth, rather than in Heaven.

As the bora wind blows from the east, so from Slovenia to Italy came both the Karst shepherd dog and the wolf that has returned to populate the Alps. The much debated question of the relationship between humans and large predators is addressed here from an unprecedented point of view: that of the shepherd dog. The camera follows the training of a dog according to the ancient method that will prepare it to care for an entire flock by itself. After training, he will be welcomed by a family whose previous shepherd dog was killed in the pasture by a bear. At the same time, it tells of the journey of the most famous Slovenian wolf, Slavc, who, covering more than a thousand kilometres, reached the Alps, stopping in the Lessinia mountains. A balanced, unforced documentation that calmly recounts the theme of coexistence with the "children of the bora", be they dogs or wolves.

The devastating details of a long ago war are eloquently presented in this documentary. "The Crimean War" is a well-researched look into the conflict that shook Europe during the years 1853-56. The bloody conflict that pitted Russia against a large European coalition is shown here to be part of a chain of long-held antagonisms that continue to this day. Perhaps of all the things we remember of this confrontation, the only positive aspect that emerges is the appearance of Florence Nightingale.

The 1986-87 season saw the return to Arsenal of their former player George Graham as manager. Graham had been appointed just after the end of the previous season as successor to Don Howe who had resigned in late March. He had been a member of Arsenal's double winning team in 1971, but Arsenal had gone since 1979 without winning a major trophy, finishing seventh in the two seasons leading up to Graham's arrival and finishing as low as 10th in 1983. Arsenal started the season well and were top of the league by Christmas, but a 10-match winless run went against their title hopes in the second half of the season and they eventually finished fourth, with Everton finishing champions for the second time in three seasons. Compensation for the failed title bid came in the form of the club's first ever Football League Cup victory, which came with a 2-1 win over Liverpool in the Wembley final. Charlie Nicholas scored both of Arsenal's goals.
