Star Wars: Galactic Racer Is the Podracing Successor We've Waited 27 Years For
The Empire has fallen, and the Outer Rim is obsessed with speed. Star Wars: Galactic Racer is finally launching this October, bringing high-stakes repulsorcraft racing to a post-Endor galaxy.
It’s been twenty-seven years since Star Wars: Episode I Racer let us experience the sheer adrenaline of the Boonta Eve Classic. Since then, Star Wars gaming has given us incredible Jedi epics, masterful dogfights in Squadrons, and gritty underworld stories. But for those of us who grew up dreaming of strapping into a twin-engine repulsorcraft and risking it all on Tatooine, there's been a massive, blazing-fast hole in our hearts.
That changes on October 6, 2026.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is officially launching on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Developed by Fuse Games (a studio stacked with ex-Burnout talent), this isn't just a nostalgic cash-grab. It’s a high-stakes reinvention of the arcade racer, set against the lawless backdrop of the Outer Rim shortly after the fall of the Empire.
The Need for Speed in the New Republic Era
The premise is brilliant. With the Emperor gone and the New Republic struggling to establish order, the Outer Rim has returned to its favorite pastime: underground, unregulated racing. This is the era of The Mandalorian and Grogu and The Book of Boba Fett, but seen through the dusty visor of a thrill-seeker trying to make a name in a booming, illicit entertainment industry.
We’re trading the pristine arenas of the core worlds for makeshift tracks carved through the wreckage of Imperial Star Destroyers and ancient Sith temples. Think less "sanctioned sport" and more "smuggler's run at Mach 3."
Why This Matters
For a long time, the franchise felt hesitant to embrace the pure, unadulterated fun of the prequel era's podracing. But Dave Filoni's unified vision for the galaxy has repeatedly proven that every piece of Star Wars lore—from the deepest Legends cuts to the flashy prequel sports—has a place in the modern canon. Galactic Racer seems to honor the spirit of Episode I Racer while injecting it with the narrative weight and atmospheric grime of the Disney+ era.
The game also features an adventure mode alongside the traditional racing, suggesting we might actually get a meaningful story between the high-speed sprints. And for the multiplayer fans? The pre-order bonuses already hint at deep customization for your repulsorcrafts, meaning the competitive scene is going to be fierce.
May the Force be with us all on the starting line. I’ll see you in the Outer Rim.
