Atlantis Restarts From the Pilot on Germany's Tele 5 — Weekdays at 5:10 PM
Table of Contents
Stargate: Atlantis is going back to the beginning on German free TV: Tele 5 restarted the series from the pilot on Wednesday, September 23, in a weekday-afternoon slot. It's a small broadcast item, and it lands in the middle of the show's loudest streaming month in years.
Not every Stargate story is about a studio, a petition or a cancelled revival. Some of them are just a schedule line — and this one is worth a paragraph or two, because it fits a pattern.
What Tele 5 Is Doing
According to stargate-project.de, Tele 5 began a new run of Stargate: Atlantis on Wednesday, September 23, airing individual episodes on weekdays from 5:10 PM. It starts from the very beginning — the two-part pilot, which German viewers know as "Aufbruch in eine neue Welt." The broadcast database fernsehserien.de independently lists an Atlantis run on Tele 5 starting that same date; its previous recorded run there was a Saturday-night stretch from September 2023 to August 2024.
Tele 5 has long been the main free-TV home for the franchise in Germany, and the station has been filling its schedule with cult sci-fi — the same report mentions Sliders, Torchwood and Doctor Who. The report doesn't say anything about a remaster, and I can't tell you how many seasons the run covers; treat this as "Atlantis, from episode one, every weekday afternoon until further notice," not more.
Why It Matters More Than It Looks
Atlantis is having an unusually public autumn. Collider reported in early September that it was the No. 1 show on MGM+ worldwide, with Universe and SG-1 in the top five or six alongside it. Later that month it turned up as a free, ad-supported title on YouTube. Now a national German broadcaster is restarting it from the pilot in a slot designed for people who just walked in from work or school.
That last detail is the interesting one. A late-evening Saturday slot is for people who already know what Atlantis is. A weekday 5:10 PM start-from-the-pilot slot is for people who don't — and that's precisely the audience Amazon's executives were reportedly worried Stargate couldn't reach when they cancelled Martin Gero's series, per Variety's source: appeal beyond the existing fanbase. Evidence keeps piling up that the existing library reaches new viewers fine when someone puts it where they can find it.
The Obvious Caveat
One broadcaster's rerun slot doesn't prove a revival case, and I won't dress it up as one. Reruns are cheap programming, and Tele 5 has run Atlantis before. What it does show is that the franchise's older episodes remain easy to schedule, easy to find, and — for the five-season, 100-episode Atlantis — easy to start from scratch. Chevron's not locked on anything new. But if you're in Germany and you've never seen Sheppard step through the gate, there's now a free channel with a pilot waiting every weekday at 5:10.
