Anakin and the Emperor Are Both Coming to NYCC — and So Is Real Star Wars News
New York Comic Con just dropped its NYCC 2026 guest list, and Star Wars fans got two real reasons to pay attention: Hayden Christensen and Ian McDiarmid — Anakin/Vader and the Emperor himself — are both confirmed for autographs and photo ops, and Lucasfilm Publishing has locked two full panels revealing new book and comic announcements across the show's four days.
NYCC 2026 runs October 8-11 at the Javits Center for the convention's twentieth anniversary, and ReedPop's first wave of guest announcements landed with a genuinely strong Star Wars showing buried among the Superman and Scream names. It's worth pulling that out and looking at it properly.
The Reunion, Again
Hayden Christensen and Ian McDiarmid sharing a convention floor isn't literally unprecedented — the two reunited for fan photos at Twin Cities Con back in November 2024, and McDiarmid has been a semi-regular convention presence going back to Celebration Orlando in 2017. But it doesn't need to be a first to matter. These two actors occupy a specific, central place in this saga's mythology: Anakin's fall and Vader's redemption on one side, the architect of that fall pulling every string on the other. Watching fans line up for photos with both of them at the same show is as close as this franchise gets to putting its central father-and-tempter dynamic in the same room, and that's true whether it's happening for the first time or the fifth.
Christensen in particular is riding a real career moment right now — Ahsoka gave him his best live-action Anakin material since the prequels, Ahsoka Season 2 is bringing him back for more against Thrawn, and he's clearly become one of the actors this era of Lucasfilm leans on most. McDiarmid, for his part, has been publicly cagey but suggestive about future Palpatine appearances — he's on record saying fans will "certainly feel my presence" going forward — and he's also confirmed for Star Wars Celebration LA in 2027. NYCC 2026 is a genuine data point in a pattern: both actors are staying visibly, actively connected to this franchise rather than treating their Star Wars work as a closed chapter.
The Publishing Panels Are the Real News Hook
Guest photo ops are a draw, but the actual news is what Lucasfilm Publishing has locked in for programming. Two full panels: "Lucasfilm Publishing: Stories from a Galaxy Far, Far Away…" on Friday, October 9th, and "A New Galaxy of Star Wars Comics from Lucasfilm Publishing and Mad Cave Studios" on Sunday, October 11th. The Friday panel's confirmed lineup is genuinely eclectic — moderator Michael Siglain joined by artist Will Sliney (currently drawing The Book of Boba Fett adaptation), franchise chronicler Dr. Chris Kempshall, Star Wars News Net's Kristin Baver, Hiding from the Dark author Kiersten White, and, notably, Ahmed Best — the actor behind Jar Jar Binks, whose own relationship with this fandom has been complicated and painful, and whose presence on a publishing panel rather than just a nostalgia photo booth says something about how Lucasfilm is trying to make amends.
The panels are explicitly billed as delivering "fresh announcements and reveals that expand the Star Wars saga into books and comics," and per CBR's advance reporting, Galactic Tales of Terror-adjacent horror content is expected to factor into what gets confirmed there — a continuation of the same genre-expansion push behind Kiersten White's own recent novel. Given how much of this franchise's most interesting recent storytelling has been happening in prose and comics rather than screens — Edge of the Abyss extending Andor's political tension into novel form, the ongoing Fall of Kylo Ren and Book of Boba Fett adaptations — a dedicated NYCC publishing showcase is exactly the kind of event that could surface genuinely new information, not just recap what's already solicited.
Why This Is Worth Watching
NYCC doesn't carry the scale of a Star Wars Celebration, but it's increasingly become a real venue for publishing-specific news this franchise doesn't always get elsewhere — Celebration tends to be dominated by film and TV reveals, leaving comics and novels to smaller stages. A twentieth-anniversary NYCC with two dedicated Lucasfilm Publishing panels and this specific guest lineup is worth checking in on when the actual reveals land October 9th and 11th. May the Force be with anyone braving the Javits Center line for a Christensen-McDiarmid double photo op — that's a genuinely good one to wait for.
